Who Really Wins The Drugstore Game?

by Momma · 4 comments

I’ve been trying my hand at The Drugstore Game for months now. Not too heavily, just here and there when I find a good deal that makes sense. I try to get great deals on my detergent and toiletries, etc… but I wouldn’t say I’m very obsessive about CVS. (Now.. Publix is another matter.)

With all of the great Black Friday advertised deals, I thought I’d give it a try. But then on Thursday I didn’t go to CVS. I read a lot of other journal entries stating that if you didn’t go in the first few hours of the sale on Thursday, the really good deals were going to be sold out. So, I skipped it on Friday too. I don’t shop on Black Friday. Saturday, on a whim and to get out of the house for a while, Mark and I gathered my coupons and my sales paper and headed to the closest CVS.

I was astounded to find that they had almost every single deal that I was looking for. Here’s what I got:

  • 1 King Sized Reese Cup – $1.00
  • 2 Aussie Shampoos – $2.99 Each
  • 1 Johnson’s Meltaway Lotion – $5.69
  • 2 Colgate Toothpaste – $2.99 Each
  • 2 Loreal Lip Gloss – $6.99 Each
  • 1 Maybelline Minerals Liquid Makeup – $8.99
  • 2 Diet Coke – BOGO – $1.89
  • 1 Covergirl Smoothers Liquid Makeup – $7.99

My coupons were:

  • $1.00 Aussie Products (2)
  • $1.00 Johnsons Product (1)
  • $1.00 Colgate Toothpaste (2)
  • $1.00 Loreal Product (2)
  • $3.00 Maybelline Minerals (1)
  • $1.00 Covergirl Products (1)

I paid:

  • $10 off $50 Coupon
  • $5.00 ECB
  • $9.49 from a free giftcard from My Points
  • $18.09 Out Of Pocket

ECB I got back:

  • $5.98 Aussie ($2.99 each)
  • $1.00 Reese Cup
  • $13.98 Loreal Lip Gloss ($6.99 each)
  • $7.99 Cover Girl Smoothers
  • $8.99 Maybelline Minerals
  • $5.69 Johnson’s Lotion
  • $5.98 Toothpaste ($2.99 each)
  • (Total of $49.61)

Then I saw my receipt showed that I hadn’t reached the limit on the Maybelline Minerals liquid makeup, so did a second transaction for the Maybelline at $8.99 and used a $3.00 off coupon and a $5.98 ECB to bring my Out of Pocket down to $.19, and got an EB back for $8.99. This brought my total OOP to $18.28 and my ECB total to $52.62.

I’m sure it will be a LONG time before I hit another deal like this, but there you go. The Drugstore Game worked for me. If you want to follow other blogs that post about the Drugstore Game every week, take a look at these:

I am just a drugstore game dabbler – I hit CVS and Walgreens almost every week but I haven’t got things down to a science like some people. But I was thrilled over the Black friday deals, which I hit pretty hard. :) I love that lip gloss btw I wish more of it was free. :)

This week I just got the free ($4.99 w $4.99 ECB) Extreme Energy shot stuff (my spouse likes those once in a while) and some of the RoC facial cleanser (no ECB but on sale for $3.99 and I had $3 printable coupons so $0.99 out of pocket).

I am going back sometime this week for a bottle of free after ECB contact solution, a Dec monthly deal I have a $2 coupon for. That’s all for this week. Have to study next week’s flyer to roll some of my black friday ECBs :)

I do the CVS thing as well and I am totally addicted. I would appreciate it if you would take a look at my site…..I have a tab dedicated to CVS in the navigation bar and you can check out my adventures there as well.
