In case you’ve been living under a rock, I’d like to bring you the breaking news that Atlanta and most surrounding areas have been flooded. While Mark, the children and I have been fortunate that we live pretty high on a hill and haven’t been touched by the water, many people we know have not been.
My mom and dad’s house is completely under water (at least we assume this to be the case, as all of the roads to get to them are beyond flooded, and the elementary school down the street (further from the river) has been flooded to the roof. Mom, dad, my brother, sister in law, and their children are all safe. As are the pet family members. Over the next few months, I’m sure they are going to need to rebuild their lives. I can’t imagine their being much left to salvage. Please keep them in your thoughts, and prayers to your diety(s) of choice.
I am raiding my stock pile, plus all of the yard sale items I have set aside. If you do couponing and have a stockpile, like I do, please consider donating things you have extras of to Atlanta area shelters for the flood victims. I’ve started a list here, and will be updating it frequently, of contact information and links to all of the local and federal agencies providing aid to the flood victims as I find them. Please feel free to leave any of this information you have in the comments to share, and share the posts with others who may be able to get the word out.
All of the pictures below were taken a few hours ago, while trying to find a route to my mom’s house to see if the flooding had receded. Obviously, it hadn’t. We’ll try again tomorrow.
